The Gorge Montrebei

The Montrebei Gorge is a must for hiking and nature lovers.

congost

The river Noguera Ribagorçana divides the Montsec d’Ares and Montsec de l’Estall. As a result, you can walk through impressive vertical walls via a narrow path drilled into the rock or you can admire them from the river, while kayaking. We recommend combining walking and kayaking. You will love the stunning views!

Climbing

If you are looking for a climbing weekend, do not miss “The Wild West”. There are more than 50 walls (6a to 7c) in Os de Balaguer and more than 10 climbing points throughout the region.

Cave Paintings

There are many archaeological sites in the area that demonstrate human presence from ancient times. This cave, which is quite easy to access, hosts 28 paintings from the Bronze Age and has been declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.

Parc Astronòmic del Montsec

The Astronomical Park of Montsec is the largest observatory in Catalonia. The absence of light pollution and the meteorology of the area have been recognised by Unesco and Montsec has been named as a Starlight destination. What does that mean? It means that Montsec is one of very few areas in the world considered a “dark sky planet territory”. Come and experience it for yourself.

Monastery of Santa Maria de Bellpuig de les Avellanes

Surrounded by woods and vineyards and founded by the Counts of Urgell in the twelfth century, the monastery has a preserved Romanesque cloister, a chapter house and Gothic vault worth visiting.
